So today had been a pretty mellow day. Adam was pleased with that fact - it seemed that these days, his life was filled with drama. From the moment that he woke up in the morning, it seemed that somoene needed to vent to poor Adam for one reason or another. Riley was having problems with his love life (it was pretty intense seeing as he was using the word 'love'), Lacey had been acting pretty distant and weird lately, and his rivalry with Dawson seemed to be heating up in music class. Adam couldn't help but feel bad - he felt as if he had been neglecting his other friends that he didn't see on a daily basis.
Pulling out his cellphone, Adam headed into the dining hall. This was a place that he was able to use his cellphone, and he was glad that he had a small phone so that it was inconspicuous. Taking a place at a small table nearest to the window, Adam flipped open his phone quickly and flipped through the menu until he reached his text messages; and from there, he answered the few stray ones that were lying around. A few from his friends, a few from his family... it was a quick proccess, seeing as he was getting accustomed to the keys on his flip phone.
Looking up, Adam glanced towards the clock, and put away his phone. He still had a whole period to waste, and he hadn't a clue how to spend it. He had a few options - he could go back to his dorm. He was pretty tired, so that option was something to be considered - he had only a few hours of sleep the night before. Another option would be to pull out his phone, text someone and try to see if there was someone to spend his free period. Most of his friends had different periods, though. Thinking of his options, Adam stuck his headphones in his ears and turned up the music; the song Believe Me I'm Lying by Forever The Sickest Kids.

Mariah yawned as she stared down at her notebook, the page was blank. That was... impossible, but apperantly the impossible had happened. She was drawing a blank on what to write, she didn't know how or why this had happened and it, well, it scared her. It really scared her. She knew that writing was the only thing she was good at, the only thing she had going for her. She sighed, a slow shuddering thing that made her tremble slightly. Her eyes fluttered slightly as she glanced down once again at the blank sheet of paper.
She remembered how the same thing had happened back when she had been in music. That was when she had been close friends with people like Dawson or Adam. But then her relationship with Aaron had shattered into a million sharp little pieces, thus she felt like music wasn't anything to her. Music had connected her to people but when someone who mattered to her cut the connection to her, it snapped other things as well. Her interest in music had fadded and thus her interest in writing had blossomed.
What had triggered this new transformation? What horrible thing had happened that was making her loose what little talent she had? She didn't know why, and she doubted she could understand why if she knew. She picked up her pencil and then... sat it back down. What was the use? She was done, what little talent she had was gone, probably forever. She sighed again, this time to keep herself from either screaming or bursting out crying.
She glanced up, blinking away tears. She didn't like this feeling. Not at all. She saw Adam, someone who she had been thinking about just a moment ago. Speak of the devil and he shall come. She was friends with Adam, not the best of friends really, but she felt comfortable with him. Sadly, she was friends with Dawson as well and Adam and Dawson weren't the best of friends. They weren't even close to friends, they pretty much hated each other. Mariah didn't feel completely inbetween but she didn't like the fact that two of her friends hated each other. Maybe she should talk to Adam about it... Yeah, maybe.
She got up and did something she rarely ever did, she left her notebook at the table. She abandoned it, leaving it where it was and was pretty sure she wasn't going to come back and get it. She made her way over to where Adam was sitting. She noticed he was wearing headphones, so she stopped and waved slightly. She wasn't one to just sit down without asking. She felt stupid for doing so, but it kept people from hating her.

Feeling a soft vibration in his pocket, Adam reached into the pocket of his denim jeans and pulled out his cellphone. Luckily he had remembered to turn it to vibrate, as he was only too familiar with his phone blasting out a ringtone in the middle of a silent place. It was embarrasing. Now, Adam was getting a phone call - which, admittedly was odd for him. Usually, his cellphone was just a device to text to his friends. And since he had unlimited texting, his cellphone bills were minimal as calls were made only every so often, when things were serious. That's why this suprised the poor boy, and caused him to take the phone and flip it open, checking who the caller was. The look on his face only showed his displeasure at the number.
Of course, it was his father. The man had been trying to get in contact with Adam for a while now - but Adam wouldn't have it. He didn't want this man in his life at all, any more. Not after the way that he had treated Adam. Although he wasn't one to hold a grudge (he was usually quite forgiving and sweet), years of physical and emotional abuse wasn't something that you could just get over with a simple 'sorry'. Honestly, Adam could not understand tha mans logic. Where did he get off thinking that it was okay to call him? Where in the world did he get his cellphone number?! No, it wasn't going to happen. That's why Adam clicked the 'ignore' button, and snapped his phone shut. It went back into his pocket.
Angrily, Adam grunted. This was not helping him concentrate on more important things. He barely was able to spend any time with Lucy, and it seemed that these days when he did get a few minutes alone with her he had other things on his mind. Well, that was to be expected when you were pretty much a verbal punching bag for your friends. Adam listened to all of his friends problems, and let almost anyone vent to him. It was probably why he always had a few problems rolling around in his head, questions just looking for answers - but the solutions were hard to find.
Trying to get his mind off of his - and other people's - problems, Adam looked up and noticed a friend of his. At one point in time they had been near best friends; but not today. He couldn't call her that, as they didn't hang out too much. They were good friends and he trusted her completely, but ever since she had switched out of music Mariah seemed to be pretty distant from Adam. This is why he smiled when she came over to him, and gave him a little wave. Knowing her nature, Adam gestured to one of the seats around and across from him, "Hey, Mariah. Feel free to take your pick, and it's nice to see you." In all truth, it was nice to see someone that Adam usually could call normal.
