i know you sat alone too many nights waiting for me.pulling into the only empty parking space she could find, scout smiled. she hadn't seen benji outside of school for days - and even in school, there wasn't much they could do in class or anything. she smiled at the possibilities of what they could do today - maybe even a makeout session. she missed the feel of his lips against hers. scout shook her head and shook her head, smiling at herself. god scout, you're so obsessed. and it was true. benji was amazing. her cutting was actually toning down because of his support--the scars were fading and barely any new ones were crisscrossing over the old. he was the only person other than her who knew about it, and he hated her depression. he was the sweetest boy ever, and she knew no other guy would have the same effect on her. how fortunate was it that they were together, that they were in the same year, same department, etc? the only answer scout had was luck. she was extremely lucky to have benji - she would've never wished for a guy like him. he was perfect. he was her life. and she loved him like crazy. according to some friends, she was too young to feel so passionately about someone. but she didn't think so. nineteen was plenty old enough. and plus, love did not have an age limit.
she pulled her keys out of the ignition and stuffed them into her quilted black bag, at the same time finding her dark pink lip gloss and compact mirror in the depths of the bag. removing the cap on the gloss, she spread it over her lips and snapped the mirror open. she wasn't looking too bad today - no acne. she was growing out of that stage; the hellish teen days were almost over. running her hand through her loose, wavy hair, scout grinned. she was starting to feel better about herself. ever since her mother had died - ten months ago - she had felt horrible, thinking that she could've done something about the breast cancer. but now she realized that she couldn't have, and she was starting to feel happier. scout closed her eyes for a minute and sighed, then checked her cell phone for the time. two twenty-five pm on a saturday afternoon - of course the mall was full. she was supposed to meet benji in front of the main entrance in five minutes. a smile spread on scout's face as he seeped into her thoughts again. seriously, he was like a drug - but even thinking about him made her mood improve. if she stayed away from him too long, though, the red scars on her wrists would start appearing again.
opening the door of her red honda civic, scout dropped the lip gloss tube and mirror into her bag, keeping her cell phone in her hand in case he called her. she locked the car by pushing a button inside the door and climbed out into fresh air, closing the door quietly behind her. scout glanced down at her outfit and fingered the hem of her shirt while looking around. it wasn't very nice outside - sixty degrees but with thick, heavy clouds covering the sky. she grimaced. scout had always hated rainy, gloomy weather - and sure enough, it had started to drizzle. at least their plans had been made for inside. running her hand through her hair again, scout walked around the car and into an aisle - was that what you called them? aisles in a parking lot? she stopped at the road and waited for a few cars to pass, rolling her eyes at the impoliteness. it was a freakin' crosswalk. she walked across the road quickly and stepped onto the curb, almost tripping and falling on her face in the process. scout flipped her phone open, making sure there were no texts she'd missed. nope - not a word from any friends or, more importantly, benji. she glanced at the digital clock display on the small screen. 2:28. he'd be here soon. she leaned against a thick stone pillar and watched the cars coming in, tapping her toe. every time she was supposed to see him it was like this. time seemed to drag on...

Benji shaked into his jacket, sprinting to his car. His phone was buzzing inside of his front pocket, but the young man barely picked it up, let alone looked at it. Reaching his car, and opening the door, he finally took a moment to relax. His breathes were choppy, and short. Benji wondered, for a moment, where he was actually going. His thoughts were racing, and he barely considered an option for more then a moment. He dropped his jaw, thinking he was the most stupid boy in the world. Scout!
At her name, Benji smiled. Scout was the one person who understood him. Or at least, one of the few. Her gorgeous hair, stunning eyes, beautiful figure, and her amazing personality. She was just ... perfect. Maybe even too perfect. Or at least, too perfect for him. Benji started the car, driving to the place he was going to meet Scout. He remembered that much, if nothing else. Benji whistled while he drove, and thought about his life. Scout and Benji. Benji and Scout. Damn; he was lucky. Very lucky. The young man grinned deeper and wider at the happy thoughts, thinking nothing would ever go wrong. Yes, he had seen every love movie possible. They all ended with a break-up, and then a new, preferably better, relationship. But what about the ex? Do they just get tossed around? Benji frowned. He would never do that to Scout, no matter what happened in their future. Never, ever. Scout would always be important, or at least a friend.
Benji's busy thoughts had taken up quite a lot of time, and he was now at the meeting place. He parked it in the nearest spot available, not caring where it was. He shoved his cell phone out of his pant pockets, and unbuckled. The car stopped, and he practically skipped out. At the sight of Scout, Benji's mother watered. Literally. He could taste her lips; those beautiful, soft, gorgeous lips. He smelled her scent, her lovely scene. Benji grinned, and tried to casually walk up to her. Reaching her, he opened his mouth, and he felt better then ever.
"Scout," Benji grinned.

i know you sat alone too many nights waiting for me.scout stared up at the sky, wishing that it would clear up a bit. a tiny drop of moisture fell onto her nose, and she rubbed it off, frowning. stupid rain, stupid, stupid rain. she sighed and glanced at her phone. when would benji arrive? scout closed her eyes and his face appeared in her mind, as it always did. her frown disappeared and a smile spread across her visage. she didn't know what she'd do if benji had never appeared in her life, or if he was ever out of her life.
she opened her eyes after a few moments, and standing in front of her was him. she straightened up, a grin illuminating her face, and greeted him enthusiastically. benji! she almost shouted, attracting several looks from people walking in or out of the mall. she couldn't help herself - scout charged him and threw her arms around his neck. i missed you, she continued, knowing she sounded really mushy and that she might be freaking him out but not caring. she had to talk to him, tell him about the cutting being reduced because of him, and she had to kiss him. she had to. this wasn't the right place though, so she just gave him a quick peck on the cheek. how are you?

Benji smiled and hugged Scout back. His throat felt dry, and it ached deeply. He couldn't think of anything to say, and looked much like an idiot at the moment. Scout seemed so casual and carefree, while here he was, looking more and more like a freak each second. Benji opened his mouth, and tried to think of anything to say. His mind was empty, and Benji decided that he officially was hopeless. He wanted to tell her how much he loved her, how much he craved her attention, how much he wanted to kiss her. But even Benji knew that a mall was surely not the place for any of that. He grinned again, and shook his thoughts so he was focusing on the real world. "I missed you too, Benji whispered, as Scout pecked him on the cheek. He smiled again, and continued thinking.
"I'm fine, thank you. Or at least, now I am," Benji replied. It was completely true, though. When he wasn't with Scout, he felt depressed, lonely, and rather sad. His parents never helped, and his friends were rarely around to pay any attention to him. Benji smiled brightly, trying to focus any tension away from the two. He was glad he was back with Scout, and didn't want to waste any time complaining and bitching about it. Bitching and moaning wasn't going to help anything. Benji gazed into Scout's eyes, and sighed passionately.

i know you sat alone too many nights waiting for me.scout sighed as his arms wrapped around her. it felt so good. god, she wanted him. call her crazy, but she wanted to kiss him right there, in front of dozens of people. she knew she couldn't - it was just weird to do that in public places. but she could hug him. and she did, resting her head on his shoulder. they were almost the same height...but not quite. maybe a couple inches difference. one time she'd gone crazy and worn four-inch heels and had been taller than him - she didn't want to do that again. not that it bothered her to be taller than benji. just that she'd almost fallen over at least four times. smiling, scout hugged him closer.
she pulled her face away from his shoulder to look at benji and her grin spread. hmm. i feel exactly the same way. her eyes sparkled as she stared into his own. oh god, she couldn't resist the temptation. a mischievous look glinted in her green eyes, and scout leaned over to whisper in his ear. you know....we don't exactly need to do any shopping, do we? her car was actually in the far corner of the parking lot. scout knew he might not want to do anything right now - maybe he did need to shop. but she was about to crack here.
