what a shame, what a shame, to judge a life that you can't change Once again Mariah found herself at the mall, with nothing really to do. Her father had promised to pick her up at five, which was now only two hours away. She had done all the shopping she had wanted to do, and not being much of a shopper that was quite easy. She had picked up a few tops and skirts, then made a entrance at the book store, spending more money there then she had at any of the clothing outlets she had acquired any clothes at. And now she was done. She hesitated to call her father, he was probably working and she hated to disturb him, though he acted like it never did. But she knew it did bother him, since he was just like her, though with law instead of just random writings. So any ride from her father until the time he had specified was out of the question.
This would all go away if Mariah had the courage to actually finish driver's ed she could easily get a license and her father would get her a car. She had a learners permit but she still hesitated in the final exam and had failed it twice already. Livvy was already driving around town doing god knows what. Mariah also was hesitant to call Livvy, fearing any reprimand that she would receive from her sister for being unable to finish a simple driver's test. Mariah shook her head as she entered the courtyard of the mall, it was a pretty big open area, much larger then the one at the school. It even had a fountain.
Mariah walked over to the edge of the fountain, her flats making a small thumping noise on the cement. She set her bags down next to the fountain and then sat down on the edge, the lapping of water as the fountain spewed water upward which then cascaded down into the pool was a hypnotic sound indeed. What else was hypnotic was the weather. It was autumn so it had become quite chilly and cloudy. But today was different, it was still chilly but there wasn't a cloud in the sky. The sun was glaring down, trying to warm the earth but despite it's best efforts could only warm a person just barely.
Mariah found these days the most comforting. Other's would argue that rainy days were, the sound of rain like white noise; or just a simple cloudy day, the passage of time seemingly slowed on those days, making everything either stand still or blur together. But no, Mariah preffered the sunny days, not because of the implications of happiness or anything like that, but just because of the warmth the sun gave out, and the slight wind trying to pull it away. That was an amazing day indeed, to Mariah.

i'm the bomb like tick, tick. Jason was walking around the mall, bored. He had driven over earlier, and had walked around the entire mall at least three times. He didn't feel like driving home. It was like drinking and driving, if he was bored and driving. He would be so bored, he would get distracted and do something wrong. His hands were in the pockets of him ripped, faded jeans. His wallet was in his back pocket, and his keys in his front pocket.
He wandered around, eagarly awaiting the arrival of a friend. He had seen nobody. Not even a cute girl he could hit on. It had been a bad day. All of his friends were out somewhere, nowhere to be seen. He had come to the mall in hopes of finding a cure for his boredom. He had browsed some stores, not really finding anything that suited him. His tastes were specific. He needed clothes that made him look hot, muscular, and were designer. Some people thought only gay guys were designers, NOT TRUE!!!
As he kept walking, he found himself in the courtyard. It was a big open space, bigger than the one at school by a small bit. It was a sunny day, and the sun shone down on the people sitting around. The fountain spewed out water, and it twinkled in the sunlight. He scanned the benches and people standing, nothing. Not a single person he was on good terms with. He saw a few people from school, but nobody he wanted to talk to.
He decided to go sit by the fountain for a few reasons. One, he didn't feel like standing. Two, it was in the middle of everything. Three, there was a pretty cute black haired girl sitting there. His DCs scuffled on the ground as he dragged his feet. He walked over and stood in front of her. "Is this seat taken?"He asked her, pointing to the empty space next to her.

what a shame, what a shame, to judge a life that you can't change Mariah was one of those few people who never got bored, it was an interesting talent of hers but one that would sometimes earn her a few weird stares while in a public place. To escape any chance of being bored, Mariah would zone out, her mind was always naturally wandering and when she felt even slightly bored she would let it off it's leash. Her mind could explore multiple worlds, and she could even write a story out in her head without pen or paper. Once she had those two crucial items in hand, she could easily write out what she had explored in her mind, spending hours writing out in perfect details what she had thought of. She didn't have a photographic memory or anything, but she was able to remember things she wanted to, it helped sometimes in school, and sometimes didn't.
And that was what she was doing right now by the fountain. Waiting for her father would take a while and it wasn't like she had copious amounts of friends she could call up and chat with. Her tinge of antisocialbility was a key detail in her life, she rarely had friends who would hang out with her just for the sake of hanging out. She was that one dependable friend that everyone had but never really acknowledged until they were needed. It was like a spare tire, you didn't need it until you really, really needed it. But she did feel that she had a connection with the few friends that she had then most other people did with their multitudes of friends. People trusted her, they confided in her. If Mariah had to give up the chance to be a popular person, she would just to be that one confidant everyone needed.
That made her the opposite of Livvy. Livvy had more friends then Rhode Island had citizens. Livvy made friends easily, mostly because she supplied everyone with large amounts of liquor and their father allowed her to hold parties at the house while he was out. Their father might not be the best, but he at least knew how to keep one of his teenaged daughters happy, or at least happy enough. The self-destruction that was evident to Mariah through Livvy's actions showed that Livvy wasn't all that happy. But that was her problem, not Mariah's. That was true, right?
Instead of finding a tantalizing story to create, her mind had decided to depress her enough to not notice some guy walk up to where she was sitting on the fountains edge. She looked up at him, feeling completely dumb. "Huh? Seat?" She asked, her mind stumbling a bit as it had to refocus itself into the current situation. "Oh, no," Mariah said, shaking her head, her dusky brunette hair brushing her shoulders as she did, "No seat's taken, the one near me, on the fountain." She felt herself blush slightly. She was a complete and utter idiot.
